Hanuman Chatti
Hanuman Chatti is at a distance of 14 km from Yamunotri. It is located at the confluence of the Hanuman Ganga and Yamuna rivers and the trekking route to Dodi Tal starts here.
Saptarishi Kund
Saptarishi Kund, half a kilometre in diameter, set a top Kalindi Parvat, is the actual source of the Yamuna. It is believed that seven great rishis, sons of Lord Brahma — Kasyapa, Atri, Bhardwaj, Vishwamitra, Gautam, Jamdagni and Vashisht — performed austerities for millions of years here in Satya Yug.
The lake is fairly inaccessible, and the trek is definitely not for the faint-hearted, so make sure you have a guide before you attempt the gruelling walk. However, the16-hour trek from Janki Chatti and back, through high altitude, over hills, rock, ice, snow and water, is well worth it just to experience the unbelievably deep azure of the lake and to actually see the rare Brahma kamal (lotus) that grows here.
Barkot
The beautiful town of Barkot is located in the Rawain Valley of Uttarkashi District on the banks of the Yamuna. The people of Rawain, who were cut off from the rest of Garhwal due to its remote location, practice a culture that is similar yet distinct from the rest of Garhwal; and it is this that makes this area exceptionally interesting. Barkot also boasts of stunning views of the Banderpunch range as well as a wealth of natural beauty. The town’s location on the route to the Yamunotri dham adds to its importance.
Sightseeing in Yamunotri Dodital
Dodital, named after dodi, the local name for trout (though some says that the name is derived from Dodi Muni who meditated here centuries ago), is a clear, sparkling lake located at a height of 3,024 metres. Dense forests of oak, deodar and rhododendrons surround the lake. The famous Himalayan trout is found in abundance here.
It is believed that Ganesh was born here and a small temple, dedicated to him, can be found on the shores of Dodital.
